White is NOT my Favorite Color

I wish I could say that this was the view from our house but unfortunately......

......this has been more like it.

We've had a massive dump here on the Palouse with more to come in the next few days. We've had four snow days since Christmas Break and Moscow students have yet to complete a full week of school since then.

What makes this whole scenerio crappy is that I asked for it. I've been wishing for a big snow to happen for the last several years as it hasn't snowed this much since 1996. Meaning that Josie and Annabelle have never experinced a decent snowfall. Now that it's here well, I wish it'd go away. That's my irony.

Wassup, Dawg???

Poor Butterscotch was the victim of fashion terrorists at our house. Josie dressed Butter in her Build A Bear dog clothes. After snapping these photos Josie was bummed that she didn't low rise the pants to make the undies stick out like you see so many young men doing these days. She also forgot to put the chain on the pants to really make our puppy look gangsta. I'm sure Butter was relived to hear she missed out on all that. She was humiliated enough as it was.

Does Your House Have That Not So Fresh Feeling?

Our house needs a douche. Ugh! It's that time of year where it's been so freaking cold that every window is locked tighter than a drum so there isn't a lot of fresh breezes coming through to whisk away the unsightly odors (why do they call it "unsightly" odors? You can't see an odor - unless you're standing around Pig Pen). My Febreeze is almost used up and I'm afraid I need something stronger. Housengil, anyone?

Big Fat Pillow Cat

While in Libby, the girls had fun toting around, Gilbert, or as they lovingly call him the "Big Fat Pillow Cat". You can see why they named him that. He's huge!

Not Done Yet but Close

We're working on a week since we took on the girls room as our winter painting project. I seriously thought we could bang this job out in two days. I mean, they build a home in 7 days on Extreme Home Makeover. How hard is it to paint four walls and a desk?

We put the last coat of paint on last night after working on the room everyday for most of the day. I guess I didn't take into account the amount of coats of paint we'd need. We still need to put everything back into their bedroom (toys, books, knick knacks, etc.) I purchased a bunch of photo boxes for all their little treasures so hopefully they can stay organized.

Their room was stark white as we haven't touched it since we moved 5 years ago. We kept thinking we'd get to it and the girls minds changed constantly as to how they wanted it decorated.

The desk area. This is where a majority of their "stuff" is stored. It was loaded to the gills that has since spilled into the rest of the house.

Ta da! I'm very pleased with how this turned out. It took many hours and lots of white paint.

We took the doors off the closet. I will be getting a sheer curtain to hang off to the side of it.

Nate put up the shelves so now the dolls are on display, not wedged between the wall and the girls' beds. They've been more inclined to play with them now that they are out.

Josie's side of the room. Nate will add another small shelf above their beds for house their mp3 speakers and water bottles at night.

Annabelle's side. The bedding and window treatments came from jcpenny.com. They are called Little Mismatched and the comforters, sheets and pillowcases are reversible and interchangable so they are able to change the look. I love being in their room now with all of the happy colors. Now is the task of trying to fit everything back in there. I'd best be getting on that.

Where's FEMA? HAZMAT? The EPA?

What you are witnessing are not scenes from a 48 Hours Special Report on people who can't throw things away. These photos are from various locations in our home. What blew up?

It is the first of the year and very dreary outside so that must mean that I got a wild hair and decided to paint the girls' room. What you see scattered about the house is the amount of crap these two kids crammed into a small 10 X 10 bedroom.

I started to take out things in their rooms and placed it into ours. As you can notice I ran out of dresser and floor space so it moved into the Don's Plumbing office.

These spaces soon filled up and then trickled into the hallway and soon Annabelle's dresser drawers found a resting spot into our living room. I always think I do a good job at higrading the stuff that comes into our house but after living in it for a few days we're hoping that 2/3 of these "treasures" find their way into a dumpster or Goodwill and not back in their bedroom. I mean, how many special rocks, rubberbands, lip gloss (I lost count at 12 tubes), pencils (I lost count at 40), pencil shavings, toy horses, hats, purses, belts, dried up markers, acorns (ACORNS!) etc. etc. etc. does a girl need anyway?

One cool thing we did find while painting was an old letter crumpled up in the back of the built in desk addressed to Ms. Mortenson (one of the original owners daughters) from a boy. I wish there was a date on the letter but I'm thinking it had to be from the late 70's/ early 80's as what boy writes a note addressing a girl so formally.

We're hoping to wrap up this project this weekend and get the house back in order. I know from previous posts this house is certainly due for it.

Happy 2008!

Today started off with a walk around the neighborhood delivering the newspaper. Yay! I'm on track for healthy living so far and then......I capped off the walk with not one, but two pieces of Oreo birthday cake for breakfast. You know what? I don't even feel guilty about it. That's one of my resolutions ...... to not feel guilty about my decisions. Guilt leads to stress and you've heard where women tend to hoard their stress.......right in their gut. So which came first? My big gut from eating too much crap or the big gut because I feel guilty and stressed about eating crappy. Now there's a question for Plato.

We wish you all the best in 2008! May your year be guilt and stress free.
